Pearl Street Bridge Replacement
Randolph, Vermont
DuBois & King provided engineering and construction phase services to replace a 159-foot bridge carrying Pearl Street over the Gihon River. Both the railings and deck were heavily deteriorated. The existing concrete bridge railing, considered a historic resource by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), had deteriorated to the point where replacement was the only option. The bridge was the only major access to the north area of the Village including Johnson State College, municipal offices, and the elementary school. The design included a detour, with temporary bridge during construction, and also a revised CE document.
Project components included superstructure replacement using 150-foot, continuous horizontally-curved steel beams with a composite concrete deck, a SHPO-approved Texas Classic bridge rail, and new sidewalks on both sides of bridge. Approach work included roadway realignment, sidewalk and curb, new subbase and pavement, and driveway improvements.
